The Houston Heights was founded as an incorporated city in 1890s by Oscar Carter. It was not until 1919 when the city of Houston incorporated the Houston Heights. "The Heights" was one of the first planned communities that benefited from streetcars. Through many decades the Houston Heights community kept its historic small town character till recent redevelopment has caused its historic homes to be replaced with modern structures thus erasing forever the historic value of "The Heights." This page shows photographs of some unique historic structures currently existing although many are in danger of being destroyed.
